Available Dates: 3rd and 4th November 2011

Location: BBC Pacific Quay, Glasgow

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: Mon 10th October

THIS COURSE IS AIMED AT TV PRODUCTION PROFESSIONALS.

COURSE INFORMATION: File-based cameras are here, if you haven’t worked with them already, you soon will. With many broadcasters making or preparing to make the move to tapeless delivery the new technology is not going to go away. This course is an introduction and will be especially useful for people who have limited or no experience of working with file based technology. It is aimed at TV production staff (Production Managers, Coordinators, AP’s...) rather than technicians, and offers a chance to meet-up, learn and share best practice. You will not walk away with a workflow plan for your next project, but you will get tips on some of the key things to consider when you are trying to get there.

New ‘file-based’ technologies require significant changes to be implemented to production processes. From picking the cameras and formats that a programme will be filmed on to deciding how to staff, budget, schedule, manage the data and the workflow through to delivery. We aim to de-mystify some of the jargon and highlight the key issues the new technology presents to better aid communication and planning.

The course will be hosted by Emma Riley, Head of Production Technology at Mentorn Media and Sunset + Vine. Emma is responsible for designing, managing and implementing their file-based workflows, integrating their asset management systems and managing their production and post production facilities. Managing her first file-based series for Sky in 2008 she was one of the pioneers of the new technology. Emma is passionate about the potential of the new technology and is an excellent and engaging public speaker.

Course Content includes:
HD & Tapeless: Why we need to change the fundamentals
Cameras - what they can do and which format
Dispelling the geek speak: codecs, proxies, metadata, streaming...
Broadcaster Specs & Workflow Choices: Staffing, Production Processes and Consequences for Budget and Schedule
Tapeless Delivery & Archiving
