The Edinburgh TV Festival is responding to the industry's challenges by offering a Business Advice Clinic this year.
Now in its 34th year, the Media Guardian Edinburgh International TV Festival, 28-30 August, is both a celebration and a study of the world's favourite medium.
The Business Clinic is certain to be popular as all around consider how to escape the worst effects of the recession.
But the programme makes clear that reality checks will be balanced by the creative insight which the Festival offers.
Mainstream broadcasters, independent producers, cable channels and satellite leaders - the Festival offers television in the round.
Students and graduates
Also new to this year's programme is an invitation to students and recent graduates to ditch their wellies and to invest in their futures by taking advantage of the Festival's masterclasses, big set pieces, and special debates. Students and recent graduates are being offered a special discount rate.
This year's Festival headliners include:
Ant & Dec, Ross Kemp, David Simon, Dominic West, James Murdoch, Robert Peston, Top Gear Masterclass, 10 Years of Big Brother, Davina McCall, Amanda Holden and Outnumbered’s Guy Jenkin and Andy Hamilton.
Sharon Elliott, who has attended the Festival for BECTU in previous years, said
"With so many senior executives present it is no surprise that the Festival has been called a corporate event and we have certainly encouraged employers to support more members of their production teams to attend.
"The industry would also be strengthened if a more ethnically diverse group of delegates were to take part.
"What is to be admired, however, is the variety and quality of the programme. It always manages to be current and innovative."
This year's Business Clinic will be supported by a number of experts, including:
- Life coaching: Alec McPhedran, Managing Director, Skills Channel TV
- Web and IT: Stephanie Chamberlain, Managing Director, Magic Milestones
- Business Development: Clare Thompson & Pamela Hamilton, Ignite
- Digital Marketing: Russell Stopford, Managing Director, Glow Labs
- PR and Communication: Peter Mountstevens & Adrian Lee, Taylor Herring Communication.
