Responding to the news that NBCUniversal International (NBCUI) is set to make a raft of changes following parent Comcast’s acquisition of Sky.
The plans include closing parts of distributor-producer Sky Vision, Philippa Childs, Head of BECTU, the UK's biggest broadcast union, said:
“Considering the price that Comcast paid for Sky, the news that efficiencies are now being made doesn’t come as a surprise. The extent to which workers will pay the price remains to be seen and our members are concerned about the plans and any further restructuring announcements and impending job losses. This is an opportunity for Comcast to demonstrate that they are good corporate citizens who are prepared to challenge the anti-union environment at Sky and allow staff an independent voice through their trade union.”
