BECTU and Parents and Carers in Performing Arts (PiPA) are hosting a forum for parents and carers working backstage in the hope of taking first steps to improve work-life balance for the group.
The forum, which will take place 13 May at 2:30pm at St Anne’s Church in Soho, is being faciliated by BECTU organisers and aims to provide an opportunity for parents and carers working backstage to share their experiences.
It is hoped that the information shared by participants will help the two organisations plan for collectively improving working practices to make work and family life more compatible.
Forums will take place to provide an opportunity to share real life stories that will form part of a wider campaign to secure additional support and help provide insights to ensure strategies evolved to combat the issue are sustainable.
Backstage workers often face a culture of long hours, late nights, unpredictability of buy-outs and regular overtime means that backstage workers face often insurmountable barriers when it comes to meeting work and family commitments.
The event is open to all backstage workers including BECTU members and non-members. This event is the first of a series of events BECTU and PiPA are planning at different locations across the UK.
BECTU and PiPA are also encouraging parents affected by these issues to take part in a survey to highlight their experiences. Take part here.
