BECTU welcomes BBC and ITV planned launch of ‘Netflix rival’.

BBC and ITV have confirmed plans for joint streaming service 'BritBox'.

Speaking on the news that the BBC and ITV are concluding talks to launch a ‘Netflix rival’ streaming service that will showcase ‘British creativity’, Head of Bectu, Philippa Childs said:

“We welcome the news that the BBC and ITV are coming together to launch a streaming platform to rival Netflix.

“This is exciting news for our members and is a step towards future-proofing these important UK broadcasters for generations to come.

"This will help address the challenges of an already competitive market, particularly when seeking to maintain younger and on-demand audiences who choose when, how and where they watch TV.

"It is also a clear signal to our members that UK broadcasters are willing to adapt and embrace a spirit of collaboration to address the global challenges of reaching different audiences with unique content."
