Dark Shadows, the latest film from director Tim Burton and due for UK release in May, was voted best production to work on by the union's background artistes who held their annual general meeting last weekend (25 March).

The Film Artistes Association (FAA) section of BECTU which looks after background/supporting artistes makes time each year to acknowledge the usually unsung workers on film and television productions who have gone out of their way to make the lives of supporting artistes, also known as extras, better in the previous 12 months.

This year members voted to pay tribute to:

Best 3rd Assistant Director -Izzi Shearman Call the Midwife

Best 2nd Assistant Director - Danny McGrath Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows

Best 1st Assistant Director - Cordeila Hardy Summer in February

Best Production to work on - Dark Shadows

Best Supporting Artiste Agency - Ray Knight Casting Ltd

The group also decided to give special recognition to Spencer MacDonald "for all the work he has done for supporting artistes over the last 17 years in his role of national official at BECTU."

In February 2012, Spencer was promoted to supervisory official and now looks after members in the independent and regional broadcasting divisions. Spencer was succeeded by national official, Gerry Carr, whose duties include support for the FAA branch.
