Union members at the Ritzy cinema accepted a three-year pay deal this month.

Rates for 2010/11 will increase by 3.4 per cent backdated to 1 October.

The 2011/12 review will see rates rise by the same percentage and the final year of this extended agreement, 2012/13, will also deliver a pay rise of 3.4 per cent.

The Ritzy cinema in Brixton is part of the City Screen chain.

Union members there have worked hard to establish effective collective bargaining.

The branch took strike action in 2007 over the company's refusal to recognise the costs of living in London. Two periods of strike action, and local support for staff at the popular venue, persuaded the company to return to talks.

A settlement was reached in 2007 which delivered increases of up to 22  per cent in the two years to 2009.
