Low-cost cover for freelances
The union's group PLI policy provides cover for claims up to £10m. The policy extends to property loaned to and in the custody or control of members - up to £25,000 per claim (subject to a maximum £100,000 per individual during the policy period).
Members can opt for cover under the union's group policy which runs from 1 May - 30 April. The one-off fee for the whole or part year 2015-16 is £25. Cover remains in place as long as members remain up to date with union subscriptions.
Current members are in the process of renewing their cover for 2015-16.
NB: Freelances in Ireland (ROI) who wish to be covered by BECTU's group PLI policy should contact our membership dept in the first instance.

Under the policy the excess for other third-party property damage claims is £250.
In addition the £100,000 limit for claims involving goods in the custody or control of the member extends to each individual member.
In the past, some members working in small companies have mistakenly thought that they couldn’t use this cover whilst in many cases, they can.
