Training Committee

The BECTU Training Committee is a sub-committee of the National Executive Committee and consists of two distinct groups of members: two delegates from each of BECTU's five industrial divisions plus an additional number of learning reps who attend on an 'ex-officio' (advisory) basis.

Ann JonesAnn Jones (RPD) is the Training Committee Chair. Ann is a bilingual (English and Welsh) media professional with 25years' television production and post-production experience, combined with consultancy, training and lecturing. She also has considerable business start-up and management experience.Ann has contributed to the development Skillset Professional Standards, NVQs, Job Roles and routes to qualifications. She designs, develops and presents training courses and provides media careers advice and guidance. Ann has played a critical role in the establishment of the Training Committee and raising the profile of training as a trade union issue.

 

training committee Charlotte SimonCharlotte Simon (BBC) is a radio engineer working in the Control Room in Broadcasting House. She is currently secretary of the Central London Engineering and Technology branch, Chair of the Production SDC and Vice-Chair of the BBC Division.

 

 

 

Mark Scrimshaw Mark Scrimshaw (BBC) has been a producer and director of over 80 documentaries features for the BBC beginning in Bristol in 1983, but since 1985 based in Newcastle; he has won several regional, national and international awards for his work.Always a union member, he started as a branch rep, then joined Nations & Regions SDC, then BBC Division.  In 2004 Mark began work as a full time Lay Official, and in 2006 was elected as Chair of the BBC Division continuing on full-time secondment to the union.

 

 

 

Martin Roberts

 

 Martin Roberts (A&E) has worked in theatre since 1983 as an electrician and is currently working at the Princess Theatre, Torquay for Live Nation. He is Branch Secretary for the Torbay Branch as well as ULR, chair of the A&E divisional committee, TMA sub-committee and the Live Nation sub-committee.

Martin is also a part-time Learning organiser for BECTU.

 

 

 Sebastian Barnes, Union Learning Organiser 

Sebastian Barnes (A&E) is the Training Committee vice-chair. He has worked in a variety of technical roles in theatre since 1972 and is the Technical & Building Services Manager for the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham. He has been a union member since the 1970's and a member of the training committee since it's early years. He is an A1 Skills Assessor and chair of the recently created Midlands Training Consortium. He has created and delivered various technical courses and local assessments over the last 10 years. Sebastian is also a part-time learning organiser for BECTU.

Mark RiversMark Rivers (BBC reserve) began working for BBC Transmission in 1983 and now works as a Project Engineer for BBC Radio Resources. He became fully active within BETA in 1989, after the union came to his aid when he was arrested at a demonstration in support of striking nurses. He now chairs the Central London Engineering & Technology Branch and the BBC Division Health & Safety Committee. He also sits on the BBC Divisional and National Executive Committees, and the Disabled Members Network Committee.

 

 

Willis Mc BriarWillis McBriar (NEC rep) Willis has been an Broadcast Engineer in BBC Northern Ireland since 1978 and he has developed his training role through working at BBC Wood Norton as an Associate Lecturer. It increased further in 2005 when he became a Training Specialist. At this point he gained a Certificate in Training Practise.  In 2006 he became the union representative on the Northern Ireland Skillset Skills panel.  He has been on the BBC Divisional Committee for ten years and on the NEC since 2006.
