Thanks to a major government grant from the Union Modernisation Fund, BECTU has created this website with a set of interactive tools to enable members and representatives to carry out a wide range of activities online.
Representatives & branch officers
The BECTU website allows members to change and update their own records; allow branch secretaries to access their branch records to communicate and consult with members, and allow local branch web-page editors to edit special branch web pages within the union website.
Please note - you must be logged in to be able to access these facilities!
Members
Members are able to amend their own records, get news from their local branch and find information and advice about every facet of their working lives.
The programme
We are running a variety of workshops to inform and brief members about how the site works and how best to use it. The workshops vary in detail and content according to the needs of the user-group, but look like this:
1-day workshop for branch secretaries and branch webpage editors
This workshop involves a full briefing on the workings of the site, including member's database and branch webpages. Anyone attending this workshop must be supported by their full-time BECTU official and will be allocated special 'permissions' on the database to gain access to the relevant parts of the website. There is a significant 'hands-on' component to this course and it will demand some previous (though quite basic) knowledge of website use.
Please read a more detailed description of the course to see if it is the one for you.
1-2 hour introductory workshop on all union courses and selected committee and branch meetings
This workshop is a tutor-led demonstration of the functions of the website including, branch webpages, member's database and a guide to the different sections of the website. If you wish to have a brief training session at a BECTU event or meeting please talk to your National Official.
20-30 minute introductory 'micro'-workshops for branches, conferences and other public events
This workshop is a very brief introduction to the website intended for large or busy events where time and space are limited. It can be amended to be run at branch meetings if the 1-2 hour workshop is too long to be practical. Once again please contact your National Official if you would like to book a session at your meeting.
