What we're doing next..
The BECTU Vision Project
All of our courses are aimed at working professionals, at making them more employable and making the industry a safer and more economically viable place to work.
Most of the courses in the first six months were aimed at Freelancers and as we enter the second stage of our project we’re now focussing on taking some of this training into the workplace, running courses with support from employers like STV and BBC Scotland. More courses are currently in development. Funding for future courses will be limited so we are also developing fee paying courses, which will be subsidised for members.
Through the Skillset Drama Training Project... We are providing training for producers and script editors in drama supported by a grant from Skills Development Scotland. This on-the-job training is aimed at nurturing creative entrepreneurs who can one day generate projects and win business for Scotland meaning greater employment opportunities for everyone in the sector. We have so far supported trainee placements with Shed Productions, STV, Dr Who, Angels Share (Ken Loach’s new film), Pram Face & Garrow’s Law to name a few.
Our Vision
With increasing production levels in Scottish broadcasting, and with our close links with BBC Scotland, Skillset and numerous independent production companies, we believe we are uniquely placed to lead the way in promoting training in Scotland.
Join BECTU and register interest with our Short Courses initiative (contact details below) and you'll be one of the first to hear about our exciting opportunities.
If you want to know more or are interested in having one of our courses run in your workplace contact the project manager Michael Wilson: mwilson@bectu.org or if you want to register for information about future courses contact Shortcoursesscotland@bectu.org.uk
