Troubled Welsh indie promises to pay its freelances

25 May 2010

BECTU has been advised by representatives of Barcud Darwen that negotiations are underway to secure a buyer. The company's representatives have stated that these discussions are taking place on the basis that all debts to freelances will be met.

A report in Wales Online on 22 May 2010 provided some details about the current fortunes of Barcud Darwen, a media and facilities group, whose divisions Omni TV and Assembly, have contracts with BBC Wales and the Welsh Assembly respectively.

BECTU is working to protect the interests of its members many of whom support the company's operations on a freelance basis.

Contact BECTU

Members owed money by Barcud Darwen, or any of its subsidiaries, are being asked to email David Donovan, national official, with full details of how much money is owed. (This invitation applies to all affected members including those who may have already contacted the Cardiff Office, tel 02920 666557).

"When the position becomes clearer the Cardiff Office will have an up-to-date list of members who are owed money and can act immediately to seek payment and to advise members on any future course of action."

BECTU posted new guidance for members faced with company insolvency in February 2010.
