Discussions with Apollo Cinemas UK, which runs 17 sites nationwide, have produced positive statements on the future deployment of staff affected by digital projection.
Last month's talks confirmed that the employer will seek to retain as many projection staff as possible as a new technical manager role is designed to replace the chief projectionist position.

BECTU has been invited to take part in the staff forum which willl examine the changes in the coming months. It is expected that currect projection staff will be encouraged to apply for the new position which will feature at all sites.
Anyone selected for the new role will be offered training and can expect to see existing terms and conditions protected; in addition the talks clarified that where staff do not wish to be considered for the new position that redundancy terms may be offered.
The Apollo circuit in on track to be the first in the UK to operate all digital projection.
"Our talks with Apollo were really positive and our hope is that they will offer some reassurance to staff. Just as several other circuits are expressing interest in the company's digital plans, we hope that they will also follow Apollo's example and involve BECTU in early consultations with their staff," commented Mick Corfield, national official.
