Negotiations on the skills-based SOLT/BECTU collective agreement have been further delayed after the employers and theatre owners asked for more time to make a formal proposal.
BECTU is seeking considerable financial benefits in return for more flexible terms and conditions of employment.
Preparatory talks for negotiations on this radical overhaul of the agreement started at least three years ago and while the delay is a blow, supervisory official Willy Donaghy commented:
"This latest delay is unfortunate but the most important factor is that we get an agreement that delivers results for both parties."
The negotiations were due to recommence on Wednesday 5 May but will now resume on Thursday 27 May. A full members' meeting will be held the following week and members will be notified when details are confirmed.
An interim pay award for staff working in West End theatre was agreed last September.
