BECTU is running a short film competition as part of its Freelancers’ Fair 2010.
Three finalists will be selected to discuss their work as part of a session titled Ethical Film-making Explored at the annual Freelancers’ Fair which takes place on Friday 11 June at Savoy Place, 2 Savoy Place, London WC2.
The competition is presented in partnership with agency and training organisation DV Talent which will award one place on one of its short courses or a week’s free kit hire to the winner.
Shorts of 5 minutes long
Entrants are asked to submit a short, up to five minutes long (ie no more than five minutes please!), in any genre or style and on any topic, to the competition page hosted by Vimeo at http://vimeo.com/groups/bectu Entrants will first need to join Vimeo at www.vimeo.com. Entries can be uploaded now; the closing date is 4 June 2010.
Whilst film-makers have real freedom about the nature of the work they enter, one essential criterion for entry is that the work should be the result of a collaboration and be jointly owned by the cast and crew.
“This is an exciting project for BECTU and one which gives new film-makers the opportunity not only to have their work appraised by established programme-makers but to discuss options for collaboration in film-making. And of course we have a great prize on offer, courtesy of DV Talent,” commented competition organiser and documentary film-maker, Benetta Adamson.
Initial shortlist
An initial shortlist of six will be determined by viewers’ votes and may include two wildcard entries decided by the judging panel. The judging panel will then deliver a further assessment to decide on the three finalists. The winner will be announced at the Freelancers’ Fair 2010 on Friday 11 June.
