17 March 2010
The training partnership between the ABTT and BECTU has kicked off with the Silver Award for Theatre Technicians.
More information about the programme here
This month (March) delegates will be taking part in the Silver Award for Stage Technicians at TR2, the award winning rehearsal and workshop space for the Theatre Royal in Plymouth.
Learning organiser, Martin Roberts, commented:
"Members need more and more transferable skills and the ABTT Silver Awards are recognised throughout the theatre industry, giving the members who have gone on the courses a skill that can give them the edge in the employability stakes."
Next month (April) courses will run in the Midlands and the North West; this part of the current programme concludes in the South West at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, in May. Places are still available; for full information and how to book please visit our dedicated pages.
Welcoming the initiative, BECTU’s national official for education and training, Kate Elliott explained:
“BECTU has a long established relationship with the ABTT and welcomes the further development of delivering the ABTT's training programme to our members in theatres around the country.
"We hope that this pilot will lead to a long-term partnership in skills delivery. We recognise that this is a very important time for skills within the theatre and live events industry, with the new National Skills Academy for backstage and offstage skills and the new Apprenticeships for the Creative Industries.
"Much time and effort has been dedicated to the development of National Occupational Standards for technical theatre – both BECTU and the ABTT have been driving this work – and we look forward to working with the ABTT towards a better future for technical theatre.”
Diary date: ABTT Show, 16-17 June 2010, Royal Agricultural Halls, London SW1. BECTU will be exhibiting. Register in advance for free entry. More information about ABTT.
