Former ACTT president, Ron Bowey, dies

22 November 2009

Ron Bowey, president of the ACTT from 1979-1982, died on 2 November aged 90.

The union sends its condolences to Ron Bowey's family and friends.

Tributes to Ron Bowey can be found in Get Wokingham, The Telegraph and in the Liverpool Daily Post.

Roy Lockett, who retired as deputy general secretary of BECTU 10 years ago, is preparing an appreciation to reflect on Ron's industry and trade union career. This will be published in Stage Screen and Radio.

Ron Bowey was made an honorary member of BECTU in 1993.

At the time of his death, Ron was a resident at Glebelands, the care home run by the industry charity, the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.

The ACTT merged with BETA in 1991 to form BECTU.
