Efforts to promote an industry-wide discussion on the role of the cinema projectionist in the digital age have continued this month.
A draft role profile is now being circulated for comments following the second meeting of the union's Digital Cinemas Committee on 1 July.
Broad agreement on the job description amongst committee members is central to the task of securing a positive future for the cinema projectionist.
Paul Davies, a leading sound and projection engineer, has spent considerable time and effort on the working document and the committee has expressed its appreciation for this.
Between now and the 5 August, when a further meeting is scheduled, committee members will be considering the draft.
Mick Corfield, national official, is encouraged by developments since the committee's launch two months ago; since that time, Empire and Cineworld, two of the UK's biggest cinema circuits, have expressed interest in the project and have offered their input.
"Thank you to those members who have contacted BECTU with their views. The invitation to those not working for Cineworld or Odeon to join us is still very much open" he said.
Contact Mick Corfield for more info.
Reminding the community of the project's purpose, Mick Corfield, said:
"The project exists not to discuss the whys and wherefores of digital projection but the future prospects for the projectionist role."
