BECTU has today issued a message of support to staff and freelancers affected by Setanta's move into administration.
After weeks of uncertainty about the Channel's future, the Irish broadcaster, with a significant base in Scotland, went into administration yesterday. Advisers continue to work on a rescue plan.
More than 200 full-time jobs are at risk following yesterday's developments; many freelance production staff, who have worked with the Channel since its inception, will also be affected.
Commenting on the situation, general secretary, Gerry Morrissey said:
"It is a great shame that this has happened as a result of the inflated price of sports' rights. Sadly, the company's workforce could bear the brunt of some basic and flawed executive decisions."
"We will do our best to assist and advise members at this time."
