With credits as powerful and varied as Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, Kidulthood, Billy Elliot, and Quadrophenia, Brian Tufano's revelations about the skill that is cinematography are certain to be inspirational.

Brian will join the chair of BECTU's Writers, Producers and Directors branch and producer/director, Mike Dick, in a 90 minute conversation about the qualities needed to interpret the director's vision. The seminar is entitled Directing the Camera (11.45 - 13.15).

Brian Tufano's generosity

"We are truly honoured that Brian Tufano has agreed to take part in this year's event. His, is an act of generosity which we appreciate greatly and which will no doubt excite and encourage his audience," commented Mike Dick.

"The content of this year's Fair is tremendous, not only do we have Brian Tufano, but we are also so fortunate to have the participation of Franny Armstrong and Tony Garnett," said Mike Dick.

Franny Armstrong is the celebrated director of The Age of Stupid and McLibel and Tony Garnett's contribution to UK film-making is a matter of record. Tony produced Cathy Come Home, working with director Ken Loach, and is the leading light behind World Productions, producers of amongst others Between the Lines, The Cops, and This Life.

Franny and Tony will join producer/director, Siobhan Cleary, in a session about the challenges of documentary and drama documentary film-making titled Breaking Through: Films which make a difference, which will run from 13.30 - 15.00.

This year's Freelancers' Fair programme has a lot of offer to all freelancers whatever their experience or particular interests.

New entrants should feel more confident about their situation following Getting Started (10.00 - 11.30) a seminar which will look at the critical issues of work experience and sources of help, with input from BECTU president, Tony Lennon, producer/director, Benetta Adamson, Anna Stacey, joint head of the National Minimum Wage Unit, Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and Joe Mahoney, managing director, Production Base.

Wrapping up the day is our final seminar, Pitching for Success (15.15 - 16.45). Visitors to the Fair who have submitted proposals will be selected to deliver their pitch to a supportive audience. Expert feedback will be given by a guest panel which comprises Current tv's Emily Renshaw-Smith, Jane Stephenson from the Community Channel and Dominique Young from Al Jazeera. Benetta Adamson is producer of this session.

In between seminars, key training organisations and providers of services to freelancers in media and entertainment - including national training body, Skillset, accountants Hard Dowdy, Thompsons Solicitors, and Production Base -  will be available in the Fair Exhibition for advice and information.

BECTU's Freelancers' Fair is open to BECTU members and to non-members; admission for members is free; non-members pay £10.
