David Donovan speaks at the Cardiff rally on 6 November 2010.

BECTU's national officer for Wales, David Donovan, addressed a rally in Cardiff on 6 November, held to oppose the ConDem Government’s proposals to cut funding for S4C, the Welsh language broadcaster.
He expressed the view of many BECTU members, who were dismayed by the last minute proposal, announced last month, to merge S4C with the BBC in four years' time. Many believe that the proposed 24 per cent cut in funding will endanger the jobs of freelances and staff already working on Welsh language broadcasting.
The rally, organised by Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Cymraeg, was attended by over 2,000 people many of whom work in the industry in Wales. It was supported by the deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones, Plaid Cymru, and Paul Flynn, Labour MP, as well as representatives from Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Cymraeg and the production community.
