Tim Barrow, a location engineer with 24 years' service in the BBC, has secured the support of BECTU, the NUJ and Unite in the election for a member-nominated trustee of the BBC pension scheme.
The election, which is being administered by Electoral Reform Services, runs from 17 August - 14 September 2011.
Tim submitted the following election statement:
"I am the Joint Unions (BECTU, NUJ and Unite) supported candidate for the position of Member Nominated Pensions Trustee.
I am acutely aware of the impact of recent scheme changes on members and the resulting depth of feeling. I will work to ensure your voice is heard.
A Chartered Electrical Engineer, I have the analytical and professional skills to undertake this role. I also have considerable experience of working in teams – an essential requirement in contributing effectively to the Trustee board.
As a Trustee I will ensure that I will always question advice if it is unclear or controversial and will use my knowledge and attention to detail in order to exercise sound judgement.
While it is not necessary for a Trustee to have prior detailed expertise in areas such as investment or pension law and practice, I am eager to expand my knowledge in these disciplines. I am committed to investing the time required to learn, understand and thereby be equipped to better serve our members.
I am wholly committed to ensuring that the views of all scheme members are taken into account when administering the scheme."
Helen Ryan, BECTU supervisory official, said:
“BECTU’s BBC reps thank Tim Barrow for agreeing to stand for election and we encourage all members in the pension scheme to vote for him.”
