BBC freelance recognition
BECTU is running a petition seeking union recognition for freelancers working on BBC EastEnders.

The union already has freelance recognition in three areas of the Corporation:
The union is aiming to extend this to those working for BBC Drama (Vision) on EastEnders.
Recognition will give the union bargaining rights, including pay, hours and holiday entitlement.
The union is asking Eastenders freelancers and casuals to complete the EastEnders petition [2Mb pdf] which should be printed, signed and returned to the union.
If the BBC does not give BECTU voluntary recognition on behalf of freelances, which the union hopes it will, the union will pursue its claim by other means.
For both scenarios the union must gather as many signed petition forms as possible.
BECTU has been recognised by the BBC to represent staff for many years.
The union believes extending this recognition to include freelancers will improve the situation for all those who work for the BBC - on whatever contractual basis.
You do not have to be a member of BECTU to sign the petition; and copies of the petition will not be made available to the BBC.
