Branches
Every member of the union is part of a local Branch, which are formed on the basis of either:
- Geography
- Place of work
- Craft/occupation
- Contract of employment
- A combination of the above
- As otherwise approved by the NEC
Branches may by sub-divided into Shops by Branch bye-laws, which are locally agreed and approved by the NEC.
The by-laws also detail arrangements for the election annually of the Branch Committee.
At Branch Annual General Meetings members of Branch Committees are elected.
Annually the Branch Chair and Secretary are elected, along with other officers required locally.
Branch General Meetings, which can be attended by all Branch members, are held from time to time to carry out direct consultation.
This is a summary - for the full definition of Branches see the current BECTU Rules.
